Illinois native Lisa Krupp founded Island Relief in
an effort to give back to the place that's become her
second home: Eleuthera, Bahamas.
Initial visits to the island were for pleasure, but
her love for the tranquil setting and local people led
her family to build a house there. The
challenges involved in this project resulted in a deep
understanding of the resource limitations in the area.
Lisa toured the Caribbean extensively during her 18
years in the travel industry, and following that
served as a Montessori Educator when her children were
young. This professional background made Lisa
uniquely qualified to notice the dramatic difference
in the medical and educational resources available on
the "tourist" islands as compared to the rural ones.
This difference was literally brought home to her when
she hosted several island residents in her home
because the medical care they needed was not
available.
Lisa was moved to act on this disparity, and
launched Island Relief in 2003.
